How to Change a Motorcycle Tire

Changing a motorcycle tire is not difficult at all. The only thing you need is the right tools and some patience.

Having trouble on how to change motorcycle tires? Don’t stress! Just follow these simple steps.

Park the Motorcycle on Level Surface

Park the motorcycle on a level, solid surface that is free of debris. Make sure it’s not in an area where someone will walk by and accidentally kick it or step on it. This can damage expensive components.

Get Wheel Removal Tools & Replacement Tire

This includes a bicycle rim lock tool, which holds the axle while removing and installing the tire. A tire pressure gauge, wrenches, pliers, and a flat head screwdriver.

You also need a replacement bicycle tire of the same size and type as the brand on your motorcycle.

Removing the Wheel and the Tire

Position your front wheel in such a way that it is resting on top of a workbench or table. Remove any bolts or fasteners holding the wheel onto your motorcycle’s fork leg using a wrench.

Once the wheel is off, you’ll have to remove the tire. Turn the valve stem 180 degrees, releasing air while holding on to the tire. Take an adjustable wrench or pliers and loosen it until you can pull it off.

Installing New Tire

Place the new tire onto the wheel and install your valve stem into place using a wrench. The easiest way to do this is if you have a lever tool. If you don’t have one, then take a screwdriver and stick it into two adjacent grooves. Twist it back and forth until it pops in.

Lastly, Install the wheel on the motorbike, and inflate the tire. Install a rubber cap into the valve stem. Make sure you tighten all nuts properly so that nothing moves around.

Bottom Line

Make sure you clean your tools and store them well. Once you’ve got all those things in place, you’re ready to go.
