You can upgrade the performance of your Harley by upgrading the brake calipers. Buying a new set of braking components is not the first thing you think of when upgrading your bike, but if you are a serious rider, then you know the importance of buying high-performance calipers. While older bikes were equipped with single piston cylinders, today’s four piston cyclocross style combines smooth, precise braking with even rotor wear.
If your calipers are making a clunking sound, then you should replace them immediately. This is a common problem, but you should avoid ignoring it. Ignoring brake problems will only increase the damage and the cost will rise proportionately. If you are unsure if your caliper needs to be replaced, take your bike to a qualified motorcycle repair shop. There are a few things you need to remember.
First, you need to choose the type of calipers. If you have an older model, you can use the stock calipers that came with the motorcycle. On the other hand, if you have an older bike, you can use radial calipers. They are more rigid than those with sliding pins and offer more bite force. You do not need to change the entire mounting bracket when upgrading. All you have to do is swap out the spacers.
